The View from the Driver’s Seat

Welcome to the 112th edition of “In Touch”. As always, I would love to continue the conversation so please hit reply and let me know what you think.

Story of the Week: “The View from the Driver’s Seat"

During a recent visit to Malta, one of the most memorable moments was being a guest on Unbrandme, the podcast hosted by Peter-Jan Grech.

Peter begins each episode by introducing his guest, then asking a deceptively simple question: “Who do you say you are?”

When he asked me, I replied, “I’m a taxi driver.

It caught him off guard – and while it may have sounded like a joke, it wasn’t meant as a metaphor. Most days, I spend a great deal of time behind the wheel, driving my children to school, to football, to their friends’ homes and wherever else life takes them.

Those rides have become some of the most meaningful parts of my day. Sometimes we talk. Sometimes I just listen. Often, I observe and learn.

What many might consider lost time in traffic, I’ve come to see as something else entirely: an opportunity to be present, to connect and, occasionally, to guide – without needing to say much.

That moment on the podcast reminded me that leadership isn’t always loud. It doesn’t need a title or a stage. Sometimes, it’s quietly lived out behind the wheel – with intention and care.

And if that makes me a taxi driver, I’m more than happy to be one.

Words of Wisdom

“With technology and over-scheduling, we are forgetting to invest time in simple connective moments with others.” Michelle Gielan

A Question to Ponder, dear friend.

If, like me, you are a parent, do you enjoy being a “taxi driver” or do you wish a professional could ferry your children here and there, which would allow you to get on with your work?
